The social contract
Community guidelines
Yapfrom works when people compare perspectives without reducing one another to a flag. These rules apply across every community in addition to its local rules.
Effective July 20, 2026
Be curious, not extractive
Ask questions in good faith, make room for first-hand experience, and avoid demanding that one person speak for an entire place. Disagree with an idea without treating location as destiny.
Add context and credit
Distinguish where a contribution was posted from the place it discusses. Link original reporting, identify edited media, credit photography, and label uncertainty. Do not present a connection-country estimate as proof of identity.
Protect people
No harassment, hate, threats, stalking, sexual exploitation, or publication of private identifying information. Do not coordinate attacks or use geographic context to expose or endanger someone.
Keep participation authentic
Do not spam, astroturf, operate deceptive personas, buy engagement, brigade votes, or evade blocks, bans, and rate limits. Synthetic or translated material must be disclosed when it could mislead readers.
Use the safety tools
Report rule-breaking content, hide material you do not want to see, and block or mute accounts and communities when needed. Moderators should provide reasons, preserve an audit trail, and decide based on conduct rather than country.
